The G&P Group transform lives through their fundraising efforts on behalf of the TCI Diabetic Association.
Turks and Caicos Islands, August 2024
The Turks and Caicos Islands Diabetic Association (TCIDA) have announced the substantial impact made possible by the generous 2023 $19,000 donation from the G&P Group, which has been fortified by a further donation this week of US$21,000. This significant contribution has enabled the charity to launch and sustain several crucial initiatives, directly benefiting individuals living with diabetes within our community including:
ID Alert Bracelets: The TCIDA has successfully distributed ID alert bracelets to their members, which are vital in emergency situations, reducing the risk of misdiagnosis, ensuring timely treatment, and offering members greater peace of mind when managing their condition.
Glucose Monitors: Recognising the importance of advanced diabetes management tools, the TCIDA has provided Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) to four individuals with Type 1 diabetes, who otherwise would not have had access due to lack of insurance coverage. Additionally, 50 Contour Next Glucose monitors have been distributed during outreach events, aiding those newly diagnosed or in need of replacements.
Holiday Care Packages: Last holiday season, the TCIDA supported 50 senior citizens and 50 other members by distributing diabetes care packages and grocery gift cards. The initiative assisted individuals in Grand Turk and Providenciales in purchasing healthy food options, facilitating better diabetes management.
Diabetic Foot Care Clinics: In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, TCIDA hosted a series of podiatry clinics across the islands from 11-15 March 2024. Led by Dr. Rodney Kander and his team, the clinics provided expert care to over 100 patients in Providenciales, Grand Turk, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, and South Caicos. The initiative offered vital referrals and education to manage conditions and prevent complications.
Branded Supplies: With new branded tents, banners, and t-shirts, TCIDA has improved its public visibility and engagement during events and outreach activities. This investment enhances their ability to promote awareness about diabetes effectively.
Future initiatives that the G&P Group donations will be used to fund include education and prevention activities such as an increase in health screenings, developing educational videos, hosting cooking and nutritional classes to promote healthy eating, school tours to support young people with the condition through educational materials for teachers and counsellors and a gala dinner in November to mark Diabetes month. The TCIDA will also fund the cost of continuous glucose monitors for 3 months, thus promoting better diabetes management for more members.
Kneshia Clarke-Forbes, Treasurer of the TCI Diabetic Association said; “We express our heartfelt gratitude to the G&P Group for their invaluable support and recognition of the TCI Diabetic Association. This substantial donation has made a tangible difference in the lives of our members, and we are proud to have partnered with them.”
